The move-out cleaning checklist landlords actually want

Boxes and keys at the door of a freshly cleaned apartment

Getting your deposit back rarely comes down to a single big thing. It is the accumulation of small details — the greasy hob, the dusty aircon filter, the scuffed skirting — that gives a landlord a reason to withhold. After hundreds of handovers around the Klang Valley, here is the room-by-room list our crews work through so nothing gives them that reason.

Start high, finish low

Always clean top to bottom. Dust and debris fall as you work, so wiping ceiling fans and light fittings before you touch the floor saves you doing the floor twice. Open the windows early for airflow — it speeds drying and clears any cleaning-product haze.

The kitchen

This is where deposits are won or lost. Landlords look here first because it hides the most.

  • Degrease the hob, splashback and extractor fan, including the metal filter
  • Wipe inside and outside every cabinet and drawer
  • Empty, defrost and clean the fridge; leave the door ajar if it will sit unused
  • Descale the sink and taps until they shine
  • Clean the oven and microwave, inside and out

Bathrooms

Limescale and mould are the usual culprits. Give cleaning products a few minutes to work before you scrub — it does most of the effort for you.

  • Descale showerheads, screens and taps
  • Scrub grout lines and re-whiten silicone seals where you can
  • Clean the toilet thoroughly, including the base and hinges
  • Polish mirrors and any glass streak-free

Living areas and bedrooms

  • Wipe skirting boards, door frames and light switches
  • Clean window interiors, tracks and sills
  • Dust and wipe down the aircon housing and filters
  • Spot-clean marks on walls and vacuum every floor edge

The finishing touches

Take photos once you are done, dated and clear. If a disagreement ever comes up, a tidy photo record is the fastest way to settle it. Return the keys with the property aired out and smelling neutral — not of strong chemicals, which can suggest you are covering something up.

If the list feels like more than a weekend allows, that is exactly why a professional move-out clean exists. Our team handles the entire checklist in a single visit and leaves the place inspection-ready.
